20 kW Laser Hole and Bevel Cutting for Large Vessel Shells

The haibao robot 20 kW cell combines gantry positioning, a six-axis robot and heavy-duty turning rolls for laser openings and bevels on large cylindrical workpieces. The source application was delivered to Jiangsu Xijie New Energy Engineering Technology.

A coordinated system for large parts

The gantry covers the main work envelope, the robot controls cutting-head orientation and the turning rolls index the shell. Together they support grouped openings around the circumference while reducing repeated manual marking and repositioning.

From the model to the opening

The proposed workflow uses 3D geometry and hole data to define the path, rotation positions and bevel orientation. Typical tasks include nozzle holes, manholes, slots and arrays of openings on vessel or tower sections. Each program must account for the shell geometry and access around the workpiece.

Select the process window by material

The reference page lists a 20,000 W fiber-laser package, carbon-steel cutting up to 30 mm with oxygen and stainless-steel cutting up to 20 mm with nitrogen, subject to trials. Thickness capability changes with hole size, bevel angle, material condition and the specified edge quality; these figures are not blanket guarantees.

Plan acceptance and site integration

Agree finished-hole tolerances, bevel requirements, edge condition, trial parts and inspection methods. The installation also needs foundations, handling access, gas and power supplies, extraction and an appropriate laser-safety system. On-site process validation and operator training form part of the agreed delivery scope.
